2021 Toyota Tundra Review, Price and Specs

Overview

Toyota Motor Corporation’s U.S. division unveiled the TRD Desert Chase 2021 Toyota Tundra, a customized version of the new 2021 Toyota Tundra, for the first time at the 2021 SEMA Show that began in the United States on November 2nd.

The vehicle aims to prove the new 2021 Toyota Tundra off-road performance. Therefore, in cooperation with Mr. Martisch Werther of Toyota Motorsports Garage, we developed a tracking support vehicle for desert races based on the new 2021 Toyota Tundra. We pride ourselves on being the most challenging, capable, and advanced Tundra ever.

Off-road races usually take place in the desert, with no pit lane or paddock, and team staff provide support such as repairs and adjustments. Tracked vehicles are essential in desert races and require full-fledged off-road performance.

The TRD Desert Chase 2021 Toyota Tundra has a long-stroke suspension designed by TRD. Adding a one-off widebody kit designed and manufactured by TRD’s North Carolina division adds to the impact.

2021 Toyota Tundra Changes?

New trims and a new appearance are the primary changes for the 2021 Toyota Tundra. This year, the 2021 Toyota Tundra expands upon its previous lineup with two new trims, the Nightshade and Special Trail Edition. All parts of the Nightshade have black finishes, including the mirror caps and wheels.

An Overview Of Interior, Comfort And Cargo

Coming to the interior, the new 2021 Toyota Tundra has changed from the previous rough design. The new cabin is wrapped in soft materials, and the details have more stitching embellishments. In addition, a large 14-inch central control screen on the center console has built-in wireless Carplay and Android Auto mobile phone interconnection functions. It also supports the current mainstream Internet of Vehicles, and its technological configuration is more up-to-date.

rear seat

This is a very large bed with a very high load height. The rear seat has a large hump in the middle of the floor as well as a massive bottom that takes up a lot of space. Due to the raised platform underneath, it is impossible to load flat items. While the back seat offers lots of space, it isn’t laid out well. Fitting large cargo items is difficult.”

Cup holder

A cup holder, shift knob, and shift gate trim ring are available for the 2021 Tundra with a console shifter. Injection-molded ABS plastic is high-strength and impact-resistant. The socket head cap screws provide a durable and rugged appearance.

Installation is easy. In addition to removing the center console panel, some minor drilling and cutting are required. A factory piece can easily be reinstalled at any time. It is not a permanent fixture.

touch screen

The first thing I noticed was the massive 14-inch multimedia screen. As standard, the 2021 Tundra SR5 comes with an 8-inch screen, while Limited trims and above come with 14-inch screens.

digital speedo meter

There should be an option for a digital speedometer on my dash screen. In my display, I would rather see that information than my trip travel time or my average MPG. Is there any option or a thread for this?

Cargo Space

2021 Toyota Tundra Trunk and Cargo Space. Three-bed length options are available for the Tundra: a 5.5-ft short bed, a 6.5-ft standard bed, and an 8.1-ft long bed.

Specs Of Engine, Transmission And Performance

The new 2021 Toyota Tundra comes standard with a twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine with a displacement of 3,445 cc. This twin-turbo V6 engine has a bore of 85.5mm and a stroke of 100mm and is equipped with a dual VVTi system. Water-cooled intercoolers also keep the turbocharger from overheating. The V6 twin-turbo engine produces a maximum output of 389 hp and a maximum torque of 66.3 kg. Although it is significantly downsized compared to the conventional 5.7-liter V8 gasoline naturally aspirated engine (maximum output 381 hp, maximum torque 55.5 kg), it has more power and torque.

This V6 twin-turbo engine will also be used in the new hybrid i-FORCE MAX. The new i-FORCE MAX combines a 3445cc V6 gasoline twin-turbo engine with a motor. The motor was placed between the engine and the 10-speed automatic transmission. The motor efficiently transmits power through a 10-speed automatic transmission. Starting the engine, driving in EV mode, electric assistance, and energy regeneration occur exclusively through the hybrid components.

The new i-FORCE MAX powertrain achieves a maximum output of 437 hp at 5200 rpm and a maximum torque of 80.6 kg at 2400 rpm. The engine displacement has been reduced by approximately 2.2 liters from the previous iForce’s 5.7 liters. By using two turbos and a motor, the power has been increased by 56 hp and torque by 25.1 kg.

MPG And Fuel Economy In Real-World Conditions

The difference between 2021 and 2022 was stark, as substantial changes were made after the 2021 model year. This version yielded 13 mpg city and 17 mpg highway, thanks mainly to the 5.7L V-8 engine, with the 381 hp / 401 lb-ft of torque configuration.

Capacities For Towing And Payload

2021 Toyota Tundra rear-wheel-drive models with the SR or SR5 trim package offer the most towing capacity and payload. A double cab with a regular bed can tow 10,200 pounds and carry 1,730 pounds.

Tundra Break System

A four-wheel disc brake system with vehicle stability control comes standard on every Toyota Tundra. Tundras also have standard trailer sway control programming and brake override technology. Using the truck’s stability control system, this system detects unwanted side-to-side movement of the rear wheels.

tundra safety features

The 2021 Toyota Tundra STAR safety system features a heavy-duty antilock disc brake system with electronic brake-force distribution, brake assist, smart stop technology, and electronic traction and stability controls.

Price

2021 Toyota Tundra prices range from $35,820 to $54,090, depending on the trim and options.
